Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1 is rolling out with a new developer option to enable desktop mode on secondary displays. This replaces the old “force desktop mode” option in previous versions of Android.

Android 16 QPR3 is here with an important Android platform capability, a Desktop mode that Google collaborated on with Samsung.

With Android heading to laptops this year, Google is ramping up its developer support for Desktop Mode in the mobile OS with new Desktop Experience guidance and an extensive Android design gallery.

In a nutshell: Google has been working to bring a "proper" desktop mode to Android for quite some time. The feature was first introduced in 2019 with Android 10, but it wasn't intended for end-users.
