Meet the 79th species of wasp recorded at Bellis, my subtropical garden in Brisbane. Less than 10mm long, this has been confirmed by Museums Victoria as being "a cool Crabronidae wasp in the genus Pison identified primarily by the emarginate or notched inner margins of the eyes. These wasps love using small holes in which to build their nests. They are frequent visitors to Bee Hotels. They stuff the holes with paralysed spiders and then lay egg", says Dr Ken Walker, Senior Curator of Entomology.
