We travel through Lock 18 on our daily sight seeing cruises. Did you know that there are no pumps in the Lock? All the water that is used to raise and lower vessels is moved through a series of tunnels in the lock walls, controlled by valves, gravity and a lock operator. The only power that is used in locking through vessels are for the motors that open and close the lock gates.
