Deadliest Aviation Accident Ever - The Tenerife Airport Disaster The accident took place on March 27, 1977, when two Boeing 747 passenger jets collided on the runway of Tenerife North Airport on the island of Tenerife. KLM flight 4805 started its takeoff run during in dense fog, unaware that Pan Am Flight 1736 was still on the runway. The impact and resulting fire killed all 248 people onboard the KM plane and 335 of 396 people onbaord the Pan Am plane. To this day, it is the deadliest disaster
