One of our preschool standards focuses on position words, and this is the explicit lesson I teach in December. I made a set of gingerbread position cards, and each student gets a little gingerbread cookie. When I hold up a card, they place their cookie in the matching position—above their head, below their head, behind, beside, near, far, outside their mouth, inside their mouth, and more. Yes, we use position words naturally all year during transitions, directions, and everyday conversations, bu
