Clearing county roads of snow and ice is no small task. The Department of Public Works is responsible for plowing and salting 357 miles of roadway – nearly the distance from Pittsburgh to Charlotte. That requires more than 60 drivers, who log over 30,000 hours during the winter season. From November-March, they use more than 10,000 tons of salt and 1,500 gallons of liquid calcium chloride on our roads.
