Have you heard the howler monkeys, one of the loudest animals in the world, in the Park? As the name suggests, the howler monkey is a vociferous animal and their calls can be heard clearly up to three miles away. The Howler’s specialised voice box allows it to expand and amplify sounds and its territorial boundaries in the wild are mapped out by howling sessions with neighbouring troops. Sound up! If you’re brave! Our howler monkey pair, Carlito and Eva, like to demonstrate exactly why they’re called howler monkeys. It’s not unusual for both male and female howler monkeys to howl together. It’s thought that this both establishes their territory and strengthens their mate bond.
