Sam is now a major hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph and a central pressure of 960 mb or 28.35 inches. At 11 am Saturday Sam was located over the central Atlantic 1095 mi east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands moving WNW at 10 mph. A slower motion to the west-northwest is expected over the weekend, followed by a turn to the northwest on Monday. Sam is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Additional strengthening is expected over the next day
