Today’s find is a rare fossil for the Yorkshire coast 🌊 A sea-worn section of ichthyosaur jaw (rostrum). It weathered out of the cliffs first, then likely spent years rolling in the surf, being smoothed and eroded by beach pebbles & sand. An epic find today — rescued from the beach at low tide 🌊 Three articulated ichthyosaur vertebrae with a fourth stuck on the side 🦴 These are the backbones of a marine reptile that swam the Jurassic seas near Whitby around 180 million years ago. It looks like it’s been out of the cliff for a while, but I’ll clean it up using air abrasion to remove the sea growth.
