We treated these veins because the patient had an episode of thrombophlebitis of the area just above the knee where there is still residual bronzing of the skin. The thrombophlebitis was due to local injury to the vein getting out of the car (bumping the vein on the door of the car). A minor injury caused a lot of pain for this patient when she developed thrombophlebitis. The message is to treat these veins before they form clots (thrombophlebitis).
