Keratosis pilaris (KP) is a common, harmless condition that presents as a sandpaper-like, bumpy texture on the skin and is often accompanied by redness. It commonly occurs on the cheeks, upper arms, and thighs in childhood and tends to improve with age. ⁠ ⁠ This happens when the skin produces excess keratin, a protein meant to protect it, which then clogs the hair follicles where they open on the skin.
