The Ferrari Testarossa went into production in 1984 as the successor to the Ferrari 512 BB mid-engined sports car with a 180° flat V12 engine (nicknamed the „Berlinetta Boxer,“ although it wasn’t a true boxer engine). The name is a nod to the successful front-engined Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa racing cars of the 1950s and early 1960s; the valve covers are painted red accordingly.
