Known throughout North America as a buzzard, the turkey vulture is a widespread and important scavenger species. Through their feeding habits, these birds consume carcasses that could pose health threats to both humans and livestock. Full-grown adults have few natural predators, but should a turkey vulture ever feel threatened, it will defend itself by vomiting powerful stomach acids and semi-digested meat, producing a odor so foul it causes most predators to quickly retreat.
