This wonderful little film was taken in High Blantyre in 1947. It’s crystal clear as it was professionally filmed for the Coal Board on the very day the collieries were nationalised. Filmed at Dixon’s Pit 2, where now Priestfield cemetery stands, this 77 year old film features miners of the colliery and has a great scene with Blantyre crowds at the pit offices watching the flag unfurl with complete delight! Blantyre 1970's - Part 3 Got a wee treat today! I've recently been making further videos charting life in Blantyre through each decade. I still had so many photos and footage that could be used, I decided to make a third video about the 1970's. Featuring music from local band Blue, the track is "Sunset Regret" which I think is apt as the sun most definitely was setting on the era of Glasgow Road. Mary Ann Ritchie, 1895 Imagine we can take an actual photo of somebody in Blantyre from the 1890’s and transform it into a short video. Well, here in 2026, that’s now possible. This is Mary Ann Ritchie, the wife of photographer, David Ritchie. The couple, back in 1895 lived at School Lane in High Blantyre having moved from Strathaven.
