CSX’s newest heritage locomotive commemorates the proud history of the Western Maryland Railway, which formed in 1852! The Western Maryland was a small but mighty railroad that hauled coal and freight in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania before merging with the B&O and C&O to eventually become part of CSX as we know it today. Our fleet of heritage locomotives, including the CSX 1852, continue to help reinforce our #ONECSX team's pride in the history of CSX. | CSX

The CSX fleet of heritage locomotives is growing again with the introduction of CSX 1897, painted in a custom design honoring the Monon Railroad. Also known as The Hoosier Line and the Chicago, Indianapolis, and Louisville Railway, the Monon Railroad connected Chicago and Louisville, operating almost entirely in Indiana. Help us welcome the newest addition to the CSX heritage fleet: Locomotive 1851, honoring the historic Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway (NC&StL). Operating from 1851 to 1957, the NC&StL was a vital freight and passenger route, connecting communities across Tennessee and into other southern states and driving regional growth.
