IV FLUIDS 💧 HYPERTONIC Hyp*E*rtonic crystalloid: “*E*nters the vessels” The water enters the vessel FROM the cells (so the cells will SHRINK) Examples: 10% dextrose in water (D10W), 5% dextrose in 0.9% saline (D5NS) 💧 ISOTONIC *I*sotonic Solution: “Stays where *I* put it” SAME osmolality as body fluids (ISO = Equal). ⭐Equal water & particle ratio.
