On this day in 1886, brave lifeboat volunteers launched in raging seas to the aid of a grounded sailing vessel called the 'Mexico' off the north-west coast of England. Tragically this resulted in the greatest loss of crew in one rescue effort in the RNLI's history. | RNLI
