Harms Mill Dam: the most significant dam removal in Tennessee history! This project reconnects 1,114 miles of the Elk River, opening vital pathways for fish and other aquatic wildlife migration. Led by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), the effort took more than three years of planning, assessment, funding, and implementation—culminating in the dam’s removal in October 2025. Built in the 1870s, the dam had long deteriorated into an abandoned structure that posed serious safety concerns
