Microbursts are capable of generating some of the most destructive winds of any weather event, falling second only to cyclones. Here's what you need to know.

A microburst like this one happens when a thunderstorm‘s downdraft is so strong that as the precipitation the storm is producing hits the ground, it spreads horizontally in a violent manner. This one occurred on the edge of the core of a high based supercell that was moving over northern Norman, Oklahoma.
