Clonal selection
Clonal selection is a process by which the body produces B and T cells to respond to infections. These cells each have unique receptors that allow them to identify specific pathogens. When the body encounters an infection, the B and T cells that can recognize the invader multiply rapidly to create an army of cells to fight it.
