Namibia is hosting its first annual Genocide Remembrance Day today to honour and pay tribute to the lives lost during the Herero/Nama genocide. Ovaherero descendants of the genocide victims are currently marching from the UN Plaza in Katutura to the Independence Memorial Site for the laying of wreaths by chiefs and dignitaries. NO MORE| Three descendants of the Herero and Nama Genocide who were among those resettled at Gam have died. This was revealed on Thursday by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani during an engagement with the returnees. In September 2024, a group of Ovaherero descendants of the Herero and Nama genocide were repatriated from Botswana to Namibia. They have since been housed at Gam in the Otjozondjupa Region.
