In what is likely to be an aerial predator avoidance behaviour, the penguins not only arrive just after dark, but they leave the colony before sunrise. From now on through the summer, that makes for a very long day at sea! We've been seeing almost 400 penguins arriving in the evening (viewing start time is 8:00pm) as the demands of chick rearing increases with the age of the chicks. Here you can also see that they leave in big groups too. They likely feed indendently throughout the day though. |

In preparation for next month’s primate release, our dedicated team of handlers have conducted a series of predator avoidance training activities with the Baboon troop as they prepare to take this significant step back into the wild. Since the primates in our care have mostly been rescued from the illegal pet trade, they have missed essential social learning and survival skills opportunities, so predator avoidance training is a key strategy to ensure these baboons have sufficient survival skills
